The Great Sillycone Migration

Throughout 2024/2025 Red Nose Factory is undergoing an extraordinary transition from our first-generation, latex rubber nose design to an improved and remastered Sillycone Foolproof Funny Bone Clown Nose™ patent pending. Our most popular shapes are being re-engineered and improved with the magic of silicone. More durable, more comfortable and more entertaining for audiences. Brighter colors, flashier glitters and a long awaited glossy finish. This has been too many years in the making. But better late than never.
There are many reasons to undergo this complete transformation of our manufacturing process. Long term sustainability, growth and scalability of the buisness, for example. But also, pride. And my desire to offer something to my community that I can truly be proud of. The first generation noses that I invented and crafted and have made for the last 10 years were good noses but I dont take to much pride in their development. It was a natural process of trial and error and the kind of stubburn problem solving that comes natural to a clown. EVen the invention of the Funny Bone was simple problem solving. I dont know why no one thought of it before me. But with these new noses, I wanted take that same drive and add some real technical ingiuity to it, some sweat and tears to create a nose that was unparalleed, something could never happenined by chance. ill go into some of the improvements me and engineer Eric Pahl have made now.
Working with a new material is lik eplaying a new instrument. We are still playing the same song but now we are playing the saxiphone instead of the snare drum. ONe of the hardest challenges over the years was negatiating and giving in to th elimitations of latex rubber. It is an organic material and coming from nature it is meant to decompose, to degrade and to change over time. OUr noses have always had a shelf life. Even though it was quite long with the right care, many years in some cases. Latex rubber is sensitive to light and heat and can degrade, warp and melt if left in the elements. Oil and grease from your skin and make up will start to deteriorate the rubber if left on the nose for long periods of time. A scratch froma finger nail, fading from the sunlight sticky edges from old make up left in it for too long.
